The Wedding Planning To-Do List Nobody Warns You About

Ceremony structure  …..actually, not really sure?

Here’s something a lot of couples don’t realise until they’re deep into their wedding planning journey: booking the venue and booking the ceremony are not the same decision. And the one you choose changes almost everything else.

What a Registrar Gives You

A registrar gives you a legal ceremony. That’s wonderful and essential — but it comes with strict conditions:

  • The venue must be registered.
  • Your ceremony time is set by their availability, not yours.
  • The content follows a prescribed, standard format.
  • Personalised vows, rituals, or roles for family, children, and pets aren’t always possible.
  • Saturdays — the day most couples want — are the most expensive.

A Celebrant Works Entirely Differently

I can perform your ceremony at a registered venue, if that’s the place you love. But I can also marry you under that ancient oak tree in your parents’ garden. In the private dining room where you had your first date. On a clifftop. Or in your living room, surrounded by the people who matter most.

The timing is yours. The location is yours. The content — every single word of it — is written from scratch, for you, about you.

Your children, family, friends, or pets can have a role. Your siblings can speak. You can include a hand-fasting, a ring warming, a unity candle — whatever holds true meaning for your family.

One important thing to know: in England and Wales, a celebrant ceremony isn’t legally binding on its own. You’ll just need a brief, separate appointment at a register office to sign the paperwork beforehand. Most couples do this quietly the week before. It takes about 15 minutes and costs a fraction of a full registrar venue booking.

What you get in return is complete freedom. A blank canvas. A ceremony that could only ever belong to the two of you.

That’s the whole point. Your ceremony. Your way.

Let’s chat — if you’d like to know more about how a celebrant ceremony could work for your day, I’d love to hear about your plans, whether you’ve got every detail mapped out or you’re just starting to explore what’s possible.
